The Sun’s orbit was only recently discovered in the last century; however, the Qur’an revealed this fact to us more than 1,400 years ago. That the Sun, other planets and celestial bodies all have an orbit of their own. In fact, the word choice (“each in orbit”) in the verse presents a palindromic structure i.e., the sentence reads the same backward and forward to visually state the fact of orbiting as well.
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.
[4:82]
And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
[36:38]
And the moon – We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.
[36:39]
It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.
[36:40]
